Design Techniques- Photoshop!

Ah the wonders of photoshop. Just thought i'd write a post about how to get really impressive Costume drawings using Photoshop.

So often i sketch out a costume and am so happy with it, but then am too scared that i may mess up all my hard work once i go to put colour on it. Or then if you want to change the drawing slightly you have to draw it out all over again; and it never seems to look the same! You can solve all this by using Photoshop.

Basically you can draw your design on paper as usual. You can can then scan it in, or, as i prefer, trace over it with a graphics tablet.  Once you have the black and white outline in your computer you can begin to colour it in with photoshop. The benefits to this is that you try out different colours at the touch of a button, you can paste in images of real fabrics, and you can just generally be as creative as you want. And it is sooo easy to get impressive results once you get the hang of it! AND if you make any mistakes all you need to do is press undo. Simples!

Here are some costume ideas i designed for Cinderella using this technique. As you can see Photoshop is such a great way to alter the designs slightly to see how different options would look-
