Oh i just can't wait to be... Julie Taymor...

Now as impressive women go Julie Taymor is definitely  up there with the best. She has 2 Tony awards from 4 nominations behind her, being equally successful in Theatre and film; costume design and directing. However, I think it fair to say that she is probably best known for her work on the Lion King Musical.

I personally am really grateful to her as i feel this production almost paved the way for being experimental with puppetry. Now it's taken off and there are puppets everywhere in the west end. Just look at Warhorse! Before this the West End wasn't really the place to be seeing experimental theatre, you would always have to go off West End for this. Now you get to see more people being really creative with magnificent budgets, which is brilliant. I particularly love how she has tried to hide the fact that this is the theatre and all the animals are human, but at the same time we do seem to forget and think they are real animals.

Last year these pioneering costumes and puppets could be found in a Lion King exhibition in the National Geographic store. This post is a bit outdated but i really wanted to share these photos with you as they are so impressive and so worth seeing. Sorry there are so many photos. They are all so good i couldn't choose which ones to include so i attached them all!
